Local radio hams to participate in drill
ESCANABA — Members of the Delta County Amateur Radio Society will be participating in a national emergency exercise called Field Day today. The purpose of the drill is to practice communicating by ham radio with little or no infrastructure. The group goes places where there are no buildings, power or antenna supports and tries to contact as many other Field Day stations as possible during the 24 hour event. This helps prepare for communications during a real emergency.
The exercise begins at 2 p.m. on Saturday on the east end of Aronson Island in Escanaba. The public is welcome to visit.
