Uppertunities business conference coming

ESCANABA — Uppertunities, a business and tourism conference at the Island Resort and Casino Convention Center, is right around the corner.

May 21 will be a day of informative sessions beginning with Gordon Food Service’s Customer Effectiveness Manager Ken Wasco. He will kick off the day by providing ways to achieve higher levels of personal effectiveness through an emphasis on communication skills.

Jessika Phillips will host three breakout sessions with relevant and engaging topics: Relationship ROI, Facebook Bootcamp, and Creating a Smarketing Plan. Jessika founded NOW Marketing Group in 2010 and quickly became a Forbes recognized Agency Partner. By providing a no-fluff, actionable, dive-in approach, her mission is to inspire a drive to tackle marketing goals.

During lunch, Dave Lorenz, vice president of Travel Michigan, will present updates pertaining to the Pure Michigan campaign. He is responsible for leading the state’s tourism branding, advertising and public relations efforts. He oversees the award-winning Pure Michigan tourism campaign, and, coordinating overall statewide tourism initiatives.

Along with the speakers planned throughout the day a Network with the Experts round-table is scheduled to allow attendees to share their expertise. This session will focus on building the connectivity of U.P. regions and explore ways to share resources and ideas. Other breakout sessions will tackle new, relevant topics such as Navigating New Marijuana Laws and Taking Advantage of the Global Marketplace.
