Volunteer training set for Hope at the Inn

ESCANABA — A training for homeless shelter volunteers is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 4, starting at 7 p.m. – Bay College Heirman Center Room 961. Those who trained previously need not attend, but are encouraged to get a refresher session. Attendees will learn about the shelter concept and specific duties for each shift. The trainings last about 75 minutes – no pre-registration needed.

The shelter runs from Nov. through April, and rotates weekly among 13 churches. Teams of two trained volunteers must supervise each shelter shift from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m., 10:30 p.m. to 3 a.m., or 3 to 8 a.m. Volunteers are also needed to provide the evening meal, but the training is optional.

HATI opened for the season on Nov. 4 and is nearing 500 bed nights. Check www.hopeattheinn.org for the current shelter and training schedules. Trained volunteers may sign up for open shelter shifts online, at the host churches, or e-mail hopeattheinndelta@gmail.com.
