Suicide awareness film scheduled at Bay

ESCANABA — On Oct. 17 at 6 p.m. Delta County Communities That Care (CTC) will present a special screening of the film Suicide The Ripple Effect at Bay College’s Besse Center Theater in Escanaba

With strong endorsements from some of the world’s leading suicide prevention experts, this 2018 film has screenings planned around the world. “Kevin Hines’ Suicide The Ripple Effect is a marvel of inspiration, a film that should be seen by anyone who has known despair, and anyone who is or has been close to someone in a suicidal crisis,” said Dr. John Draper of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

The film chronicles the story of Kevin Hines, who at age 19 attempted to take his life by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge. Since then, Kevin has been on a mission to use his story to help others find recovery and stay alive, and has become the world’s most prominent suicide prevention speaker and advocate. The film also features some of the world’s leading suicide prevention experts and shines light on people who are using personal experiences with suicide to help others find the hope they need to stay alive.

“Suicide is difficult to talk about, but it has impacted so many people in our community,” said Jenni Grabowski, Delta County CTC coordinator. “We are hosting this screening to draw more attention to this issue and so people in crisis can find hope and get help before it is too late.”

Suicide The Ripple Effect allows suicide prevention advocates to bring people together to view this film and discuss the topic. This event will have a tremendous positive impact on reducing the number of suicides and suicide attempts in our community.

Following the screening there will be question and answer session and discussion on the topic featuring local suicide prevention advocates and people whose lives have been impacted by suicide.

There is an admission fee to view the film. Financial assistance is available if needed.

This screening is supported by Delta County CTC; Public Health, Delta and Menominee Counties, Bay De Noc Community College and the Delta County Suicide Prevention Task Force.
