YMCA plans for summer activities

ESCANABA — Northern Lights YMCA, Delta Center is getting ready for an influx of programming and activities this summer.

“It’s important that children both play and build relationships throughout the summer,” said Katey Huber, youth program coordinator. “From summer camp, to swimming, to providing free meals, the Y is able to support children in Delta County and help them discover and reach their full potential.”

Northern Lights YMCA has partnered with the Gladstone School District to offer a new camp experience. “We are excited for our new location in Gladstone. Our Gladstone Camp will have so many opportunities for a great day camp experience,” Huber said. The Gladstone location will meet at Jones School gymnasium, but will primarily take place at Van Cleve Park.

The YMCA Camp Harstad program for children with special needs is located in Ford River south of Escanaba and is funded through a partnership with the Rotary Club of Escanaba. “This camp is a wonderful opportunity for growth and development in a fun and safe environment,” said Huber. These campers participate in the same core of activities as the other camps have to offer, swimming, nature hikes, group games, and field trips.

In a partnership with both Gladstone and Escanaba Schools, campers will be served a hot lunch daily (except for Thursdays) through the Meet Up and Eat Up program.
