Christian Park, Bay College collaborate

ESCANABA — In a collaborative effort, Christian Park and Bay College joined forces to provide Bay senior RN nursing students with education on evidence-based wound prevention, and care, as part of their Capstone Lab course at Bay College.

Jesse Halase, RN, a Bay College graduate, and Ashlee Kowalkowski, RN, are currently employed by Christian Park Village. Halase works in education and staff development, and Kowalkowski is the wound care specialist who provides care to residents to protect the body’s largest organ (skin) and prevent development of pressure injuries and promote wound healing. With the support of Christian Park, they worked collaboratively with Bay to provide this opportunity over four separate days to enhance fifty-two RN students’ skill sets related to wounds and evidence based wound care.

“This effort is much appreciated by Bay and is in keeping with recommendations from the Institute of Medicine that encourages collaborative efforts with community partners in educating future nurses,” Division Chair Sandra Croasdell said.

The Bay College Nursing Program is currently accepting applications for both the RN and LPN programs. Visit the Bay College website nursing pages at www.baycollege.edu or call the nursing office at 906-217-4090 for more information.
