Children’s Choir of Chicago to perform

CHICAGO — Stephanie Gregoire is a 2008 graduate of EHS and works in Chicago for the Children’s Choir of Chicago and Chicago Public Schools as a music teacher.

On Saturday, May 19, the Children’s Choir of Chicago will take part in a benefit concert at Memorial United Methodist Church of Gladstone, located at 1920 Lake Shore Dr., Gladstone. Alongside the Remnants Barbershop Choir, The Gracenotes, Drew Fase, U.P. Express, The Breakfast Club, and Tommy and Joe, they will make music to support the work of Hope at the Inn, which provides shelter for the homeless during the winter months. There is a fee to attend.

Founded as a single choir in Hyde Park at the height of the Civil Rights Movement in 1956, today the Chicago Children’s Choir serves more than 4,800 youth who represent all 57 Chicago zip codes. Its founder, Reverend Christopher Moore, believed in using music to unite youth from diverse backgrounds. The simple yet powerful mission has grown exponentially, as we use music to create global citizens and revolutionizing youth choral arts.

The group on tour in the Upper Peninsula consists of members of the Hyde Park Neighborhood Choir’s intermediate and advanced ensembles. These ensembles rehearse at the choir’s founding location and serve young people from Hyde Park and the surrounding areas. Under the direction of Stephanie Gregoire and Mollie Stone, the Hyde Park Neighborhood Choir performs throughout Chicago and beyond. Most recently, members of the Hyde Park Neighborhood Choir have traveled to Santa Fe, St. Augustine, and Amherst.

They will be performing and exchanging music with students from Hannahville Indian School and Escanaba High School on Friday May 18.
