Congressional art contest announced

TRAVERSE CITY — Congressman Jack Bergman announced the 2018 Congressional Art Competition, with a submission deadline set for May 1. The annual Congressional Art Competition is open to all high school students currently living in the First District of Michigan. The winning submission will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year and viewed by visitors and dignitaries from all over the world. The winner and one guest will be flown to Washington, D.C., for a reception with Congressman Bergman and other Members of Congress.

All entries for the 2018 Congressional Art Competition must be submitted to Bergman’s Marquette or Traverse City offices by 5 p.m. on May 1.

All entries must meet the following criteria:

– Be two dimensional

– Be no larger than 28 inches wide by 28 inches tall by 4 inches thick (with frame); note: we are happy to provide framing services

– Weigh no more than 15 pounds, including frame

– Be original in concept, design, and comply with U.S. copyright laws

– The student information and release form must be attached to the back of the artwork

Last year’s winning entry was submitted by Liam Kaiser from Traverse City West Senior High School.
