New group to support trail network

GLADSTONE — A new organization has formed in Delta County to help create and maintain a non-motorized, multi-use trail system in Delta County. The goal of the organization is to further utilize the region’s assets as well as expand recreational opportunities for all silent sport activities for residents and visitors.

The group held an initial meeting in January which 35 people attended and was comprised of various stakeholders, including sport enthusiasts as well as representatives from local city, county, and state agencies. It was made clear at the meeting that a formal group needed to be created to collaborate with landowners, municipalities, trail builders, and government agencies in order to achieve a quality trail system in Delta County.

The group will conduct another public meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 7, and encourages anyone who enjoys spending time on any of the existing trails and pathways to attend to learn more about the organization’s vision and what is needed from supporters. Topics for discussion at the meeting include organization structure, committee formation and the development of short and long-term goals. The meeting will be held from 7 to 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7, at the Freshwater Tavern at the Terrace Bay Hotel, located between Escanaba and Gladstone.
