Column: 2021 Century Ride coming soon

ESCANABA — It’s that time of year again as the leaves start to take on orange and yellow hues, plump pumpkins sit outside everyone’s doorway, and the chatter about pumpkin spice is unleashed. It’s almost fall, and another staple of the season that you don’t want to miss out on is the 20th Annual Delta County Century Ride happening September 19, starting at the Gladstone Sports Park.

This event, organized by the Delta County Chamber of Commerce, encourages everyone to come out and pedal the pristine backroads of Delta County. Participants can choose from 100K, 78K, 40K, and 13K rides, so whether you’re looking to put your skills to the test or just need an excuse to enjoy a beautiful day, there is a route just for you.

The only thing better than the ride is the food. The morning starts out with a gourmet waffle breakfast crafted by Bobaloon’s Cafe. This is the sixth year that Bobaloon’s has made their specialty waffles that have become a favorite among riders.

More food rest stops along the way include sandwiches from the Brisket Barn and mini pasties from Dobber’s Pasties. Riders can also expect to enjoy live musical entertainment during their ride. Crossing the finish line, you can also enjoy a celebratory root-beer float sponsored by Bink’s Coca Cola and Rapid River Dairy Flo.

The century ride has a reputation for a day of camaraderie. Nancy Przewrocki and Tony Przewrocki met during the 2011 century ride after their teammates had canceled on them; they ended up riding together and later going out to dinner. Seven years later, the pair said “I do”.

So, if we have sold you on the 2021 Century Ride sponsored by OSF HealthCare, we encourage you to sign-up today online at deltami.org. Once there, don’t forget to sign-up for a Century Ride t-shirt!

Pricing for the Century Ride is $40 adult registration including a t-shirt and $30 adult registration without a t-shirt. Kids 12 & under are $15 to register. If you have any questions about the Century Ride, you can contact the Delta County Commerce Center at 906-786-2192.
