Welding business has new owners

MANISTIQUE — Jim’s Welding And Machine will host an open house at the shop located at 327 N. 5th Street in Manistique from 2 – 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 4. New owners Mike and Jessica Columbus will offer coffee and cookies and a tour of the longstanding Manistique business.

“We’ll offer the same classic great service and quality work that Jim’s Welding and Fabrication has been known for,” says new owner and head welder Mike Columbus. “We will also offer mobile welding and contract welding services.” Jim’s Welding And Machine serves the entire Upper Peninsula.

Mike Columbus has been in the welding trade for 24 years and is a member of UA Local 15. He wanted to make sure that residents and businesses still had access to welding and machining services when previous owner Jim McLaughlin decided to sell the shop.

“We’re proud to keep a Manistique tradition alive and look forward to serving the community,” says co-owner Jessica Columbus, a longtime Manistique resident. “We’re looking forward to meeting our neighbors.
