Column: Shop locally this holiday

ESCANABA — Although it is always imperative to promote shopping locally, the holidays allow us to emphasize investing in our own community in a fun and festive way. Shopping local is beneficial for everyone involved. As the customer you receive one of a kind, quality products and services that can only be found in your own community. Even by making one purchase, you are creating a positive ripple effect in the local economy and supporting the hardworking individuals behind each business. What could be better? How about getting rewarded $50 for doing so!

The Delta County Chamber of Commerce created the ‘I Shop Local’ promotion to highlight the positive effect of supporting your community. To participate is simple: receive the ‘I Shop Local’ sticker by making a purchase at a Chamber member retailer, take a picture of your sticker in a fun or creative way, post it on Facebook and tag the local business and the Delta County Michigan – Chamber of Commerce. By following these steps you will be entered into a weekly drawing for a $50.00 Chamber gift certificate. There have been two winners so far and we have two more opportunities for you to be a winner; the next drawings will take place on the 17th and the 21st. So enjoy your holiday shopping and share your pride, you might just get lucky and have some extra spending money!

If you have misplaced yours, did not receive one or shopped at a Chamber member location that did not have stickers available, stop by the Chamber of Commerce to pick one up. As always, thank you for shopping locally.
