Students at the Bark River-Harris Elementary school took part in a nationwide contest in which students competed with hellium-filled balloons. The ballons, carrying each student’s identification, were released and people finding them were asked to return the card. The balloon that traveled the farthest distance won. About 375 balloons were released at the school in March of 1987.
