Girl Scouts learn the art of making maple syrup
ESCANABA — Delta Area Girl Scouts were introduced to how maple syrup is made recently.
They first learned what tress produce the sap and how to identify each species.
Next was getting-hands on by placing a tap in the tree. The group was shown how the sap was vacuumed into hoses and collected into a large vat that was continually being pumped.
The last stop was the steam shack, where the girls saw how the sap was transformed into maple syrup.
The best part for the Girl Scouts was being able to taste freshly made maple syrup.
