GLADSTONE — Tony Mauhar, of Gladstone, recently celebrated his 90th birthday in quarantine Wednesday, May 20.

The Korean War veteran was surprised by a visit from his daughter and grandkids from Traverse City. They, along with his wife Ann, went outside for another surprise that had been planned. Friends and fellow Knights of Columbus members had organized a birthday parade to celebrate the special occasion.

Led by a Gladstone Fire Department firetruck and Delta County Sheriff’s Department patrol car, a parade of friends and family drove by his home to spread birthday cheer. Area neighbors gathered to watch with Tony and his family as the sirens blared, vehicles honked horns, friends shouted “happy birthday” wishes and dropped off cards and presents.

It was a memorable day for all involved.
