American Legion ­breakfast Dec. 15

GLADSTONE — The American Legion in Gladstone will be serving breakfast Sunday, Dec. 15. Serving will be from 9 a.m until noon.

There will be no steak feed the month of December.

First UMC cookie walk

ESCANABA — The Ladies of the First United Methodist Church in Escanaba are warming up their ovens once again for their 26th Annual Christmas Cookie Walk on Saturday, Dec. 14, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

In addition to new and old cookie recipes, specialty breads, candy and fudge will again be featured. An assortment of cookies and breads makes a great gift for friends, relatives, nursing homes, local businesses and others.

There will also be some crafts available for sale. The public is invited to browse the baked goods and crafts and enjoy a free cup of coffee and samples of delicious cookies.

First United Methodist Church is located at 302 S. Sixth Street in Escanaba. For more information, call the church office at 786-3713.

Line dancing halted at Gladstone Senior Center

GLADSTONE — Line dancing at the Gladstone Senior Center will be discontinued over the holidays and will resume Friday, Jan. 3, 2020. For more information or to sign up, call 906-428-2843.

Escanaba Eagles to hold breakfast Sunday

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Eagles 1088 will serve breakfast on Sunday, Dec. 15, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Eagles Hall, located at 608 Ludington Street in Escanaba.

Public is welcome to attend. There is a fee to attend the breakfast. For more information, call the Escanaba Eagles Club at 786-3451.

First Presbyterian ­cookie sale today

ESCANABA — The First Presbyterian Church, 819 1st Ave. South in Escanaba, will be holding its Annual Christmas Cookie Sale on Saturday, Dec. 14 starting at 10 a.m. All kinds of cookies — homemade, fancy, old-fashioned, and decorated — will be available by the pound. The church is handicapped accessible.

Rock-Perkins Area Christmas Cantata

ROCK — The Rock-Perkins Area Cantata Choir will present their annual Christmas cantata on Sunday, Dec. 15. This year, the group will be performing “Everlasting Light” by Larson, McDonald, Rouse and Shackley. There will be two performances, one at 4 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Rock, and one at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Perkins. Refreshments and fellowship will follow each performance.

A free will offering will be accepted to help cover the cost of music. Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy these performances.

Historical Society bake sale today in Escanaba

ESCANABA — The Delta County Historical Society will conduct its annual Christmas Bake Sale on Saturday, Dec. 14, in the multipurpose room of the DCHS Beaumier Museum and Archives building. The museum is located on Sand Point, just east of the lighthouse.

Donations of baked goods and candy will be accepted beginning at 9 a.m. The sale opens to the public at 10 p.m. Donors and customers are invited to tour the museum and the lighthouse without charge during sale hours. The sale ends at 2 p.m., or when sold out.

Ethnic specialties, such as Italian pizzelles and cornmeal cookies, Swedish butter cookies, Norwegian spritzes and Finnish joulutortu, as well as a variety of breads, preserves, cakes and candy, will be offered.

Proceeds benefit the lighthouse, museum and archives.

Toastmasters to meet

ESCANABA — Bay De Noc Toastmasters develops communication and leadership skills every Wednesday, except the last Wednesday of the month, at noon in the Penstar Building, located at 1431 N. 26th St. in Escanaba.
