U.P. Tri-County MEA-Retired Group meeting

ESCANABA — U.P. Tri-County MEA-Retired Group will hold a meeting Tuesday, Dec. 10, at 10 a.m. EST (9 a.m. CST) at the Great Lakes First Federal Credit Union, training room, 2110 3rd Avenue North, Escanaba. Parking for the meeting will be in the back of the parking lot so customers can have the front parking spaces.

Scott Knauf, of the Upper Peninsula Honor Flight, will be the guest speaker.

Canned goods for the local food pantries will be collected, so attendees are encouraged to bring items to donate. Any interested retired or current MEA members can attend.

First UMC cookie sale

ESCANABA — The Ladies of the First United Methodist Church in Escanaba are warming up their ovens once again for their 26th Annual Christmas Cookie Walk on Saturday, Dec. 14, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

In addition to new and old cookie recipes, specialty breads, candy and fudge will again be featured. An assortment of cookies and breads makes a great gift for friends, relatives, nursing homes, local businesses and others.

There will also be some crafts available for sale. The public is invited to browse the baked goods and crafts and enjoy a free cup of coffee and samples of delicious cookies.

First United Methodist Church is located at 302 S. 6th Street in Escanaba. For more information, call the church office at 786-3713.

Rapid Readers choose classic for Christmas

RAPID RIVER — “The Good Earth” by Pearl Buck is the Rapid Readers’ Christmas novel. Discussion will take place on Thursday, Dec. 12 at 10 a.m. at Jack’s Restaurant in Rapid River. New members are welcome.

Presbyterian cookie sale

ESCANABA — The First Presbyterian Church, located at 819 1st Ave. South in Escanaba, will be holding its Annual Christmas Cookie Sale on Saturday, Dec. 14 starting at 10 a.m. All kinds of cookies — homemade, fancy, old-fashioned, and decorated — will be available by the pound. The church is handicapped accessible.

Veterans Council to meet

ESCANABA — Delta County Veterans Council will hold its next regular meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11 at the Purple Heart Building, 1202 Sheridan Road.

Class of 1963 lunch

ESCANABA — The gals of the Escanaba High School Class of 1963 will be holding a monthly noon ladies’ lunch the second Wednesday of every month at the Family Inn Restaurant. Friends and spouses of class members are welcome.

Toastmasters meets Wednesday in Escanaba

ESCANABA — Bay De Noc Toastmasters develops communication and leadership skills every Wednesday, except the last Wednesday of the month, at noon in the Penstar Building, located at 1431 N. 26th St. in Escanaba.

MADD seeks volunteers

ESCANABA — Volunteers are needed for MADD. Opportunities are available for those interested in volunteering a couple of times a year or a couple of times a week. There are a wide variety of opportunities to match interests and expertise. Some options include speaking, answering the help-line calls, organizing victim impact panels, mailing information or just displaying MADD red ribbons.
