New DAR board member

L’ANSE — Ivy Netzel of Wilson has been elected to the position of corresponding secretary in the Onagomingkway Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR). Regent Sarah Smart and historian Jane John conducted the swearing in at the November chapter meeting held at the Zeba Mission Church near L’Anse.

The Onagomingkway Chapter serves the western portion of the Upper Peninsula in historic preservation, educational and patriotic missions. All members trace their ancestry back to a person who fought in or was instrumental in the American Revolutionary War.

Memorial UMC cookie and bake sale set

GLADSTONE — The Annual Christmas Cookie and Bake Sale will be held on Dec. 7 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Smith Hall at the Memorial United Methodist Church, 1920 Lake Shore Dr., Gladstone.

The cookies are sold by the pound along with homemade breads, coffee cake, pies, and candies. Crafts will also be sold.

St. Anthony’s Church annual meat pie sale

ESCANABA — St. Anthony’s Church will be making their annual 10-inch meat pies on Dec. 12 and 13. All pies must be pre-ordered. To pre-order, call or text Debbie at 906-399-4259.

Pies will be available for pick up from 1 to 4 p.m. at St. Thomas Church in Escanaba.

Used books sought

ESCANABA — The Delta County League of Women Voters is looking for donations of books, audiobooks, DVDs and music CDs to be sold at its annual book sale in August. The League is also in need of large print books, which are often requested.

Funds from the annual sale are used to publish voter guides and for other voter services.

Donated materials should be no more than 10 years old and in good condition.

Books can be delivered to the Daily Press Business Office at 600 Ludington Street during normal business hours. For pick up, call Pat Rudden at 280-1789.

Christmas bazaar

ESCANABA — The St. Anthony/St. Thomas Annual Christmas Bazaar will take place Sunday, Dec. 8 in the St. Thomas Parish Hall, located at 1820 9th Ave. North in Escanaba. A meal will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is a cost for the meal. There will also be a cash raffle, silver dollar grames, 50/50 raffles, basket raffles, a bake sale, silent auction, crafts and more.

Takeout meals are available. All are welcome.

Relic Riders to meet

RAPID RIVER — The Rapid River Relic Riders will meet on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at the clubhouse to discuss plans for the Rapid River Relics Snowmobile Show/Swap on Jan. 25, 2020 at the Rapid River Lions Club.

Sons of Union Veterans set meeting for Dec. 7

­MARQUETTE — Camp 266 of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War will hold their bi-monthly meeting on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 1 p.m. in the old board room at the Jacobetti Veterans Home in Marquette. The room is on the lower level of the Home and easily accessible from the rear parking lot. The key agenda item is the Civil War display in the new Upper Peninsula Veterans Museum in Escanaba.

The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is a fraternal organization dedicated to preserving the history and legacy of the heroes who fought and worked to save the Union. Camp 266 includes members from across the Upper Peninsula. The focus of the camp is locating, marking, and maintaining graves of Civil War veterans as well as researching Civil War history.

Those interested in the organization, including women, are welcome to attend. More information is available from Camp Commander Patrick Kennedy, who can be reached at uppermichigan@yahoo.com or 906-863-7686. Also, contact him in the event of inclement weather to see if the meeting is canceled.
