ESCANABA — UP Health System Home Care and Hospice expressed its appreciation on Veterans Day by visiting the veterans residing at assisted living and skilled nursing facilities throughout the community. Gayle DeShambo and Amy Martin, account executives for UP Health System, created care packages with a variety of items to recognize veterans living in area homes for the aging.

According to DeShambo, the experience was humbling. She involved her mother, sister and husband in the delivery and presentation of the packages.

As they were introduced to each veteran, they thanked them for their service and placed a decorative angel pin on their shirt along with a USA necklace and a red, white, and blue headpiece. DeShambo said the thanks and gifts were received with hugs and even tears from the over 60 veterans visited that day.
