Relic Riders to meet

RAPID RIVER — The Rapid River Relic Riders will meet on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at the clubhouse to discuss plans for the Rapid River Relics Snowmobile Show/Swap on Jan. 25, 2020 at the Rapid River Lions Club.

Christmas ­cookie sale

ESCANABA — The First Presbyterian Church, 819 1st Ave. South, Escanaba, will be holding its Annual Christmas Cookie Sale on Saturday, Dec. 14 starting at 10 a.m. All kinds of cookies — homemade, fancy, old-fashioned, and decorated — will be available by the pound.

The church is handicapped accessible.

Escanaba Elks memorial planned for Dec. 1

ESCANABA — Each year, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks remembers and honors departed members with a memorial service. The Escanaba Elks Lodge 354 will conduct their annual memorial service for deceased Elks when Exalted Ruler Steve Victorson and Elks officers perform the ceremony in the Lodge, located at 510 Ludington Street in Escanaba on Sunday, Dec. 1 at 12:30 p.m.

The deceased Elks of the past year are: William L. Meiers Sr, Robert J Johnson, John A. Fisher Jr, Jim Rogers, Matthew G. Snyder, Hjalmer A. Olsen, Dale Koski, David Haelterman, James P. Chapekis, Patrick G. Henderson, Thomas J. Ammel (PDDGER), Ray Fontaine, Karl G. Gipp, Dr. Richard Stanchina and William Sauter (PER).

Following the ceremony, the Elks Auxiliary will serve lunch for family members and friends in the Elks dining room. The public is welcome.

Forest Service retirees Christmas luncheon

WELLS — The annual Forest Service retirees Christmas luncheon will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at the Buck Inn in Wells starting at 11:30 a.m.

Members are asked to bring non-perishable food items, which will be donated to the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry.

December Elks Auxiliary meeting set for Dec. 5

ESCANABA — The December Elks Auxiliary meeting will be held on Thursday, Dec. 5. Social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will begin at 7 p.m., with the meeting to follow. For reservations or cancellations, call Peggy at 786-4278 or text 280-1585 by noon on Monday, Dec. 2.

Toys will be collected for Toys for Tots at the meeting.

MADD seeks volunteers

ESCANABA — Volunteers are needed for MADD. Opportunities are available for those interested in volunteering a couple of times a year or a couple of times a week. There are a wide variety of opportunities to match interests and expertise. Some options include speaking, answering the help-line calls, organizing victim impact panels, mailing information or just displaying MADD red ribbons.

Used books sought

ESCANABA — The Delta County League of Women Voters is looking for donations of books, audiobooks, DVDs and music CDs to be sold at its annual book sale in August. The League is also in need of large print books, which are often requested.

Funds from the annual sale are used to publish voter guides and for other voter services.

Donated materials should be no more than 10 years old and in good condition.

Books can be delivered to the Daily Press Business Office at 600 Ludington Street during normal business hours. For pick-up, call Pat Rudden at 280-1789.
