Breakfast and bake sale

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Eagles Post 1088 will hold a breakfast and bake sale on Sunday, Nov. 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Eagles Hall, located at 608 Ludington Street in Escanaba.

There is a fee to attend the breakfast. The public is welcome. For more information, call the Escanaba Eagles Club at 786-3451.

Used books sought

ESCANABA — The Delta County League of Women Voters is looking for donations of books, audiobooks, DVDs and music CDs to be sold at its annual book sale in August. The League is also in need of large print books, which are often requested.

Funds from the annual sale are used to publish voter guides and for other voter services.

Donated materials should be no more than 10 years old and in good condition.

Books can be delivered to the Daily Press Business Office at 600 Ludington Street during normal business hours. For pick-up, call Pat Rudden at 280-1789.

No breakfast at Legion

GLADSTONE — American Legion Post 71 of Gladstone will not be serving breakfast in November due to hunting season.

Tree lights for sale in honor or remembrance

GLADSTONE — Honor or remember someone with a light on the Christmas tree in Gladstone’s Van Cleve Park. Lights are available to purchase at www.gladstonekiwanis.weebly.com.

Join Santa in a tree lighting ceremony, which will be held on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 5:30 p.m. Cookies and refreshments will be served.

Audubon Club to meet

ESCANABA — The Bay de Noc Audubon Club will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. The meeting will take place in Room 961 of the Joseph Heirman University Center at Bay College.

The meeting is open to anyone interesting in birding. There is no charge.

Rapid Readers’ November meeting

RAPID RIVER — “Madame Fourcade’s Secret War” by Lynne Olson is November’s discussion choice for the Rapid Readers. The meeting will take place Thursday, Nov. 14 at 10 a.m. at Jack’s Restaurant in Rapid River.

Elks memorial service

ESCANABA — Each year, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks remembers and honors departed members with a memorial service. The Escanaba Elks Lodge 354 will conduct their annual memorial service for deceased Elks when Exalted Ruler Steve Victorson and Elks officers perform the ceremony in the Lodge, located at 510 Ludington Street in Escanaba on Sunday Dec. 1 at 12:30 p.m.

The deceased Elks of the past year are: William L. Meiers Sr, Robert J Johnson, John A. Fisher Jr, Jim Rogers, Matthew G. Snyder, Hjalmer A. Olsen, Dale Koski, David Haelterman, James P. Chapekis, Patrick G. Henderson, Thomas J. Ammel (PDDGER), Ray Fontaine, Karl G. Gipp, Dr. Richard Stanchina and William Sauter (PER).

Following the ceremony, the Elks Auxiliary will serve lunch for family members and friends in the Elks dining room. The public is welcome.

Forest Service retirees Christmas luncheon

WELLS — The annual Forest Service retirees Christmas luncheon will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at the Buck Inn in Wells starting at 11:30 a.m. Members are asked to bring non-perishable food items, which will be donated to the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry.

Taco Tuesday returns

GLADSTONE — Taco Tuesday is back at the Gladstone American Legion Post 71. Serving is from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The public is welcome.

The events are held at Gladstone American Legion Auxiliary Unit 71, 802 Delta Ave, in Gladstone.
