Fish fry fundraiser set

ESCANABA — Delta County Democratic Party Annual Fish Fry fundraiser will be Saturday, Oct. 26 at the Plumbers and Pipefitters Hall, Local 111, located at 2601 N. 30th St. in Escanaba. Social hour will be at 5 p.m. with the dinner at 6 p.m.

MARSP to meet Nov. 5

ESCANABA — The November meeting of MARSP will be held at noon, on Nov. 5 at the Joesph Heirman University Center on the campus of Bay de Noc Community College. Attendees should use the Danforth Road entrance.

Lunch will be served buffet-style.

The financial director from the Island Resort and Casino will be the guest speaker and will discuss how monies from the Casino are used in the community.

Members are encouraged to bring used eyeglasses to the meeting. Reservations must be made no later than Oct. 28. If you are not on a calling list, call 906-786-7748 to make reservations.

Delta Cluster Fall Gathering set for Oct. 19

RAPID RIVER — The Delta Cluster Fall Gathering will be held on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Rapid River. The theme for the morning is “Celebrating Women,” presented by Pastor Terry Frankenstein. Registration begins at 9:15.

The in-gathering offering will be for the Backpack Program in Manistique. The in-kind offering will be going to the Pregnancy Services of Delta County. Suggested donations include diapers (sizes newborn – size 5), crib sheets, receiving blankets, baby bath towels, child protective devices for outlets, baby-safe doors and cupboard adapters, baby nail clippers, rattles and sleepers.

Attendees are asked to RSVP by Oct.16 by calling the church office at 906-474-9353. Leave a message if there is no answer.

Neurologist to speak to Parkinson’s group

KINGSFORD — The Parkinson Society of Dickinson County Area will host neurologist Dr. Steven Schechter, of West Bloomfield, at the support group meeting on Thursday, Oct. 17. Check-in for this meeting will begin at 10 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church on Hamilton Avenue in Kingsford. Coffee will be available.

Schechter will speak on the medication “Xadago,” which has recently been approved by the FDA for use with Parkinson patients. After lunch, he will direct a yoga routine done in a seated position, as he is a certified yoga instructor.

Lunch will be provided free of charge by Stephanie Belf of U.S. World Meds.

All area Parkinson’s patients and their caregivers are invited.

Fire department ­pancake breakfast

FORD RIVER — Ford River Volunteer Fire Department will hold a pancake breakfast and bake sale on Sunday, Oct. 20 from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Ford River Township Hall. Guests can follow the signs from M-35 or U.S. 2 & 41.

Bark River Senior Center daily activities

BARK RIVER — The Bark River Seniors meet each Wednesday for a Meals on Wheels dinner at 11:30 a.m. EST. There is a cost for the meal.

The coffee pot will be on and there will be opportunities for visiting and cards beginning at 9 a.m. Sit-&-Fit exercises begin at 10 a.m., for those interested. Bingo follows lunch.

Marine Corps Auxiliary spaghetti fundraiser

ESCANABA — The Marine Corps League Auxiliary Annual Spaghetti Fundraiser will be held on Oct. 19 at the Elks Club in Escanaba. Dinner is served from 4 to 7 p.m.
