ESCANABA — OSF HealthCare St. Francis Hospital & Medical Group has awarded two honorees for the Grateful Patient program. The program includes the international DAISY Award that recognizes the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care of nurses and the Sunflower Award, which recognizes non-nursing staff for being outstanding role models among our community of caregivers. This quarter’s awards were given to Bryon Pratt, RN (DAISY Award) and Patti Moras, Polysomnographic Diagnostic Radiology Technician (Sunflower Award).

In 2015, Bryon Pratt, RN joined the OSF HealthCare team, working in the Medical Surgical unit. He is one of 55 Daisy nominees this quarter. Pratt was recognized for his efficient and compassionate care at the bedside of each and every patient he cares for.

“This young man has the perfect demeanor as a caregiver. He was professional, gave you answers, and discussed your needs with the doctor. There was total efficiency when Bryon left your room. I felt like I had the best of care. He is exceptional,” said one of his patients.

Another patient noted that Pratt surely picked the right profession.

Patti Moras began her career with OSF HealthCare in 2003. A licensed practical nurse, Patti is trained as a polysomnographic diagnostic radiology technician and works in the respiratory therapy department at OSF St. Francis Hospital. Moras was among 23 nominees for the Sunflower Award and was recognized for going above and beyond for a patient in an uncomfortable situation. She showed a great deal of compassion and empathy and helped to make a positive impact.

“As caregivers, our mission partners often find themselves caring for people during their most vulnerable moments,” said Lacey Crabb, CNO and VP of patient care services at OSF St. Francis Hospital. “This particular situation was a prime example of how meaningful compassionate care is to those we serve. People like Patti can make all the difference for patients in uncomfortable and vulnerable circumstances.”

Award ceremonies were held to celebrate with each of the honorees, their co-workers, managers and administrative team.

“The work of our employees goes beyond providing health care to patients. They re often providing comfort, compassion, and a listening ear. I see it each and every day and am proud to see the Sisters’ mission in action. The nominations from patients act as a great reminder that staff from all departments are making a positive impact on those we serve,” said Dave Lord, president of OSF St. Francis Hospital.
