Dance in Rock Oct. 13

ROCK — A dance will be held at the Rock Community/Senior Center, located at 3892 W. Mapleridge Rd., on Sunday, Oct. 13 from 1 to 5 p.m. Music will be provided by Ron Jay & The Country Strangers.

There is a cost at the door and a free will donation lunch will be available. For more information, call Alice at 906-356-6588. All proceeds benefit the Senior Corporation.

Elks Auxiliary meeting

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Elks Auxiliary will meet on Thursday, Oct. 3. The social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the dinner meeting starting at 7 p.m. The theme this month is “tailgate party,” and members are encouraged to show team spirit and dress accordingly.

For October reservations, call or text Peggy at 280-1585 by noon on Sept. 30. Automatic reservations will start in November.

NARFE Chapter 1900 September meeting

MARQUETTE — Members of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Chapter 1900 will hear a presentation about hospice care at their next regular meeting at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 25.

Roxanne Filizetti, RN, CNRN, clinical director of Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice, will present the program.

NARFE will meet in Room B of the Marquette Senior Center, on the lower level of City Hall, 300 W. Baraga in Marquette. Members may enter from Spring Street, behind City Hall. Spring Street is one-way from east to west.

NARFE Chapter 1900 was chartered in 1983 and includes members from the Marquette, Escanaba, Rapid River, Ontonagon, Houghton and Hancock areas. For more information, call 906-475-0362.

MARSP to meet Oct. 2

ESCANABA — The October meeting for the Delta County Chapter of MARSP will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at noon at St. Joseph’s Church in Perkins. Members are asked to note the change in day.

A dinner will be served.

Members are asked to bring any unused candles, which will be collected and distributed to Lakestate Industries.

Sheriff Ed Oswald will give a presentation on the new jail.

Members who are not on a calling list should call 906-786-7748 by Thursday, Sept. 26. For cancellations, call the same number no later than Sunday, Sept. 29.

Pancake breakfast

HERMANSVILLE — The Hermansville American Legion Post 340 will be having a pancake breakfast, Sunday, Sept. 29 from 8 to 11 a.m. Proceeds will benefit Legion projects.

Alano Club anniversary

GLADSTONE — The 36th anniversary celebration of the Delta Alano Club will be Sunday, Sept. 29. The days activities begin at 3:36 p.m. with the annual meeting. Guest speaker will be Cory L. A potluck supper will follow the talk.

A Journey Through Grief

ESCANABA — “A Journey Through Grief” is a bereavement support group presented on behalf of UP Health System Hospice. This is a non-denominational support group that is open to anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one. It provides educational materials and guide discussions on a variety of topics to assist those in the grieving process.

“A Journey Through Grief” is offered the last Thursday of every month. The next session is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 26 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at St. Thomas Church, 1820 9th Ave. North in Escanaba.

The group will be facilitated by Lewis Hague, UP Health System Hospice bereavement coordinator and coordinated by Gayle DeShambo, account executive for UP Health System Hospice.

This support group is open to anyone in our community that is grieving the loss of a loved one.
