Lions Club raffle winner

WELLS — The winner of the Wells Lions Club 52 Club raffle for Sept. 16 is Karen Kelly of Escanaba. Kelly won $100. This is week seven of the raffle.

ESCANABA — Amvets Post 123 is hosting the band “Country Cousins” Friday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m.

East Ludington Lecture Gallery Series continues

ESCANABA — The East Ludington Gallery, located at 1007 Ludington St. in Escanaba, holds a lecture on the third Thursday of every month, except December. This month’s lecture features Sandy Wilson, who will discuss creating one-of-a-kind jewelry. The lecture will take place from 7 to 8 p.m.

M&M Parkinson’s Support Group to meet

MENOMINEE — The M&M Parkinson’s Support Group will meet Thursday, Sept. 19 at the Harbors Retirement Community building 1110 10th Avenue, Menominee at 10 a.m.

The program, presented by Debra Flannery, will be “Brain Fit.”

Being informed about how and what you can do to keep your brain its healthiest is an important issue in the success of your fight against Parkinson’s and other neurological diseases. Research has shown a plant-focused diet is associated with a decreased risk for many diseases such as Parkinson’s, heart disease, diabetes and certain forms of cancer.

Printed information will be available at the meeting.

IXL Museum hosts blacksmithing demo

HERMANSVILLE — Rob Hornik of Liberty Forge will be giving a blacksmithing presentation at the IXL Historical Museum in Hermansville on Sunday, Sept. 22. The presentation will begin at 1:30 p.m. CDT. Hornik will share the history of blacksmithing, show and describe the use of the trade’s tools, provide demonstrations, and answer questions.

Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. Donuts and spiced tea will be available for purchase during the presentation. The museum is located at W5561 River Street in Hermansville.

MARSP to meet Oct. 2

PERKINS — The October meeting for the Delta County Chapter of MARSP will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at noon at St. Joseph’s Church in Perkins. Members are asked to note the change in day.

A dinner will be served.

Members are asked to bring any unused candles, which will be collected and distributed to Lakestate Industries.

Sheriff Ed Oswald will give a presentation on the new jail.

Members who are not on a calling list should call 906-786-7748 by Thursday, Sept. 26. For cancellations, call the same number no later than Sunday, Sept. 29.

Compassionate Friends

ESCANABA — Anyone who has had a child die in their family is invited to attend the meeting on Thursday, Sept. 26 of the Southern Upper Peninsula Chapter of the Compassionate Friends. The meeting takes place at 7 p.m. in the front conference room at Escanaba High School. Use Third Ave. South off the highway and make a quick left into the front of the high school parking lot. Then use the front entrance and once inside, take an immediate left to the third room on the left.

Compassionate Friends is a non-profit self-help bereavement support organization for families that have experienced the death of a child. When a child dies at any age or for any reason, the family suffers intense pain and may feel hopeless and isolated. The Compassionate Friends provides a highly personal comfort, hope and support for every family experiencing the death of a son or daughter, brother or sister, or a grandchild, and helps others better assist the grieving family. The group has more than 625 chapters in the United States.
