Parkinson’s support group to hold meeting

MENOMINEE — The M&M Parkinson Support Group will meet Thursday, Sept. 19 at the Harbor’s Retirement Building, 1110 10th Avenue, Menominee at 10 a.m.

The program, presented by Debra Flannery, will be “Brain Fit.”

Being informed about how and what you can do to keep your brain its healthiest is an important issue in the success of your fight against Parkinson’s and the other neurological diseases. Research has shown a plant focused diet is associated with a decreased risk for many diseases such as Parkinson’s, heart disease, diabetes and certain forms of cancer.

Printed information will be available at the meeting.

The public is welcome to the meeting and guests are asked to bring their questions and ideas to share. For more information, call 906-863-9445.

MARSP to meet Oct. 2

PERKINS — The October meeting for the Delta County Chapter of MARSP will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at noon at St. Joseph’s Church in Perkins. Members are asked to note the change in day.

A dinner will be served.

Members are asked to bring any unused candles, which will be collected and distributed to Lakestate Industries.

Sheriff Ed Oswald will give a presentation on the new jail.

East Ludington Gallery lecture series continues

ESCANABA — The East Ludington Gallery, located at 1007 Ludington St. in Escanaba, holds a lecture on the third Thursday of every month, except December. This month’s lecture features Sandy Wilson, who will discuss creating one-of-a-kind jewelry. The lecture will take place from 7 to 8 p.m.

Gladstone Smear League begins season

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone Smear League, formerly the All Saints Smear League, will begin a new season Thursday, Sept. 19. The Smear League will play all of its games at the Knights of Columbus Hall on the 700 block of Delta Avenue in Gladstone.

Alano Club celebrating anniversary Sept. 29

GLADSTONE — The 36th anniversary celebration of the Delta Alano Club will be Sunday, Sept. 29. The day’s activities begin at 3:36 p.m. with the annual meeting. Guest speaker will be Cory L. A potluck supper will follow the talk. Friends of Dr. Bob and Bill W. are encouraged to attend.

Annual Bot Trot returns

GLADSTONE — The Eighth Annual Bot Trot 5K Run Walk, sponsored by the Gladstone BraveBots robotics team, will be held Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Gladstone High School Shop and Braves Avenue. Registration starts at 8 a.m. with the race at 9 a.m.

A Journey Through Grief

ESCANABA — “A Journey Through Grief” is a bereavement support group presented on behalf of UP Health System Hospice. This is a non-denominational support group that is open to anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one. It provides educational materials and guide discussions on a variety of topics to assist those in the grieving process.

“A Journey Through Grief” is offered the last Thursday of every month. The next session is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 26 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at St. Thomas Church, 1820 9th Ave. North in Escanaba.

The group will be facilitated by Lewis Hague, UP Health System Hospice bereavement coordinator, and coordinated by Gayle DeShambo, account executive for UP Health System Hospice.
