A Journey Through Grief to meet Sept. 26

ESCANABA — “A Journey Through Grief” is a bereavement support group presented on behalf of UP Health System Hospice. This is a non-denominational support group that is open to anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one. It provides educational materials and guide discussions on a variety of topics to assist those in the grieving process.

“A Journey Through Grief” is offered the last Thursday of every month. The next session is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 26 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at St. Thomas Church, 1820 9th Ave. North in Escanaba.

The group will be facilitated by Lewis Hague, UP Health System Hospice bereavement coordinator and coordinated by Gayle DeShambo, account executive for UP Health System Hospice.

This support group is open to anyone in our community that is grieving the loss of a loved one.

Escanaba Eagles to hold breakfast Sunday

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Eagles 1088 will serve breakfast Sunday, Sept. 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Eagles Hall, located at 608 Ludington Street in Escanaba.

St. Thomas pasty sale

ESCANABA — The St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church pasty sale will take place Sept.16 and 17 from 2 to 5 p.m. Pick up will be at the parish hall, located at 1820 9th Avenue North.

Pasties are available with or without rutabaga. To order, call 789-9205.

Beginner line dancing

ESCANABA — Gladstone Senior Center offers free line dance lessons with a wide array of music each Friday morning. No partner is needed, and you don’t have to be a member of the center to participate. Class times are:

Newbie beginners: 9:15 to 10 a.m.

Regular beginners: 10 to 10:50 a.m.

Intermediate: 11 to 11:30 a.m.

Highland Golf Club ­rummage sale

ESCANABA — The Highland Golf Club is looking for donations for its annual club fundraiser rummage sale on Saturday, Oct. 5.

The club is seeking golf items, golf clothing, small appliances, tools, small furniture, decorations, and household items.

The club will not accept clothing that is not specific to golf, couches, mattresses, large appliances, TVs, or computers.

Gladstone Smear League begins Sept. 19

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone Smear League, formerly the All Saints Smear League, will begin a new season Thursday, Sept. 19. The Smear League will play all of its games at the Knights of Columbus Hall on the 700 block of Delta Avenue in Gladstone.

Salem Lutheran Men host cookout Sept. 22

BARK RIVER — The Last Supper of the Summer Cookout, sponsored by the Bark River Salem Lutheran Men, will be held Sunday, Sept. 22 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Bark River. The church is located across from the Bark River Senior Center.

All are welcome at the cookout. A free will donation will be collected.
