Heart of the North Lions to meet Thursday

BARK RIVER — The Heart of the North Lions Club eboard meeting will be held Thursday, Aug. 29 at 6:45 p.m. at the Bark River Senior Center. The regular monthly meeting will be held Thursday, Sept. 5 at 6:45 p.m. at the Bark River Area Senior Center. Members are asked to invite a guest.

The Heart of the North Lions Club is part of Lions Clubs International, the largest service club organization in the world. Its 1.35 million members in more than 46,000 clubs are serving communities in 207 countries and geographical areas around the globe. Since 1917, Lions Clubs have aided the blind and visually impaired, championed youth initiatives and strengthened local communities through hands-on service and humanitarian projects. Heart of the North Lions Club welcomes new members. Meetings are held the first Thursday of each month at 6:45 p.m. Anyone interested in giving back to the community is invited to visit a meeting.

Gladstone School and Public Library fall hours

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone School and Public Library have announced their fall and winter hours, which start Sept. 3. The school and library will be open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. They will be closed Saturday and Sunday.

Live music at IXL Museum Wednesday

HERMANSVILLE — Singer/songwriter Cathy Bolton will perform at the Hermansville IXL Historical Museum at W5551 River Street on Wednesday, Aug. 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. CDT. Bring your lawn chairs, sit and enjoy a root beer float as you listen to old and new favorites. Proceeds from donations will go toward the new roof on the IXL office building.

Lakeview Cemetery accepting donations

ESCANABA — Lakeview Cemetery will be accepting donations for its annual fall rummage sale. No clothing will be accepted. All proceeds benefit the cemetery.

No donations will be accepted after Sept. 5.

Coat drive Tuesday

MANISTIQUE — The Michigan State Police Manistique Outpost and Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital are joining efforts to help neighbors in need. The public is asked to donate a new or gently used coat to the Michigan State Police Manistique Outpost on Tuesday, Aug. 27, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. All donated coats will stay in Schoolcraft County to help those in need.

Toastmasters to meet

ESCANABA — Bay De Noc Toastmasters develops communication and leadership skills every Wednesday, except the last Wednesday of the month, at noon in the Penstar Building, located at 1431 N. 26th St. in Escanaba.

Opportunity offered to save memories

ESCANABA — OSF Hospice is offering the “Life Memories” program. The Life Memories program allows OSF Hospice patients who are in the final stages of life the opportunity to relive and relate their memories for their loved ones. Volunteers conduct the person’s “life story” interviews and record them to DVD.

The program is a free service to their patients and their families. All information is kept confidential.

Those interested in participating should contact OSF Hospice at 786-3915.

Mill retirees to meet

ESCANABA — The Mill Retirees group will meet on Wednesday, Sept. 4 at the Union Hall on Sheridan Road at 10 a.m. Refreshments will be provided and there will be a 50/50 drawing.

All mill retirees are invited to attend. The group meets the first Wednesday of every month.
