Live music at IXL Historical Museum

HERMANSVILLE — Singer/songwriter Cathy Bolton will perform at the Hermansville IXL Historical Museum at W5551 River Street on Wednesday, Aug. 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. CDT. Bring your lawn chairs, sit and enjoy a root beer float as you listen to old and new favorites.

Proceeds from donations will go toward the new roof on the IXL office building.

Manistique coat drive

MANISTIQUE — The Michigan State Police Manistique Outpost and Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital are joining efforts to help neighbors in need. The public is asked to donate a new or gently used coat to the Michigan State Police Manistique Outpost on Tuesday, Aug. 27 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

All donated coats will stay in Schoolcraft County to help those in need.

Healing prayer service

ESCANABA — Fr. Ryan Ford will be leading a healing service at St. Anne Church, 817 South Lincoln Road, Escanaba on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 6:30 p.m. for those in need of a physical, emotional, relational or spiritual healing.

This service is not a Mass.

Lakeview Cemetery accepting donations

ESCANABA — Lakeview Cemetery will be accepting donations for its annual fall rummage sale. No clothing will be accepted. All proceeds benefit the cemetery.

To drop off or have items picked up, call 906-789-1442 or 906-786-7173. No donations will be accepted after Sept. 5.

Health and Wellness Fair set for Sept. 10

ESCANABA — The Bay College Health and Wellness Fair, sponsored by the Human Services Club, will be held Tuesday, Sept. 10 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bay College in the Besse Center/HUB.

Dance in Rock Sept. 8

ROCK — A dance will be held at the Rock Community/Senior Center, located at 3892 W. Mapleridge Rd, on Sunday, Sept. 8 from 1 to 5 p.m. Live music will be provided by Country Express.

There is a cost for the dance, and a free-will donation lunch will be available. For more information, call Alice at 356-6588. All proceeds benefit the Senior Corporation.

Memorial UMC Clothes Closet open to public

GLADSTONE — The Memorial United Methodist Clothes Closet is open each Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Gently used clothing is available for all. The church is located at 1920 Lake Shore Drive.

Purple Heart 1976 meeting on Aug. 29

ESCANABA — The Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) Chapter 1976 will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29 at the clubhouse building, 1202 Sheridan Road. The MOPH is for all military veterans who sustained combat wounds during their service to the country.

MADD seeks volunteers

ESCANABA — Volunteers are needed for MADD. Opportunities are available for those interested in volunteering a couple of times a year or a couple of times a week. There are a wide variety of opportunities to match interests and expertise. Some options include speaking, answering the help-line calls, organizing victim impact panels, mailing information or just displaying MADD red ribbons.

Honoree Dinner planned

GARDEN — A new date has been chosen for the Honoree Dinner, sponsored by the Garden Peninsula Historical Society. The dinner will be Sept. 22 at the Garden Community Center. The event will begin at noon with the buffet dinner to follow at 12:30 p.m. Honorees are asked to be there at 11:30 a.m. for pictures.

Following dinner, honoree biographies will be read and certificates presented. Attendees are asked to bring a dish to pass. The Historical Society will provide tableware.
