Christian Closet to close

ESCANABA — The Christian Closet of the Escanaba Church of Christ has been open for many years, and has enjoyed providing aid to the community by supplying clothing, food, and household items to monthly guests. The Christian Closet will be open for the last time from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7.

The Christian Closet is located at the Escanaba Church of Christ building located in Soo Hill at 5079 18th Road, Escanaba.

NAMI to meet July 18

MARQUETTE — The National Alliance on Mental Illness-Alger/Marquette offers free, confidential peer support groups and educational meetings for individuals living with mental illness, and friends or families living with an individual with mental illness.

A support group will gather Thursday, July 18 at 7 p.m. in the Baraga Place Conference Room, 129 West Baraga Avenue, Marquette. For more information, call 906-360-7107, visit ­­www.­namiam.org, or follow the group on Facebook.

Blueberry Fest July 28

ISABELLA — Annual Blueberry Fest will take place Saturday, July 28 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Isabella Community Hall, located on US 2 and Hwy 495. The event will feature blueberry pies and buckles, raffles, music, and a cake walk.

The event is open to the public. All proceeds and donations benefit ongoing restoration projects for the historic hall.

Live music at Amvets

ESCANABA — Amvets Post 123 will have live music Friday, July 19 and Saturday, July 20 at 7 p.m. Friday night will feature the Ghost Riders and Saturday will feature Raven Madness Karaoke. The public is welcome.

AAUW to tour Cultural Center July 27

HANNAHVILLE — On Saturday, July 27, American Association of University Women (AAUW) members will meet at the Native American Cultural Center in Hannahville for a tour of the facility. The tour will include a Native American-themed lunch. A small fee will be charged for lunch and reservations are required. Members and guests are asked to call 786-3415 no later than July 23 if they plan to attend. Those who have already signed up do not need to call as their reservation has been confirmed. AAUW was established in 1881 and is open to men and women holding an associate’s degree or higher. The group promotes gender equity and life-long learning. For further information about AAUW, call 399-6080.

A Journey Through Grief

ESCANABA — “A Journey Through Grief” is a bereavement support group presented to individuals on behalf of UP Health System Hospice. This is a non-denominational support group that is open to anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one. The group provides educational materials and guided discussions on a variety of topics to assist those in the grieving process.

“A Journey Through Grief” is offered the last Thursday of every month. The next session is scheduled for Thursday, July 25 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at St. Thomas Church, 1820 9th Ave. North, Escanaba.

The group will be facilitated by Lewis Hague, UP Health System Hospice Bereavement Coordinator and coordinated by Gayle DeShambo Account Executive for UP Health System Hospice.

This support group is open to anyone in our community that is grieving the loss of a loved one.

Book donations needed

ESCANABA — The Delta County League of Women Voters is looking for donations of books, audiobooks, DVDs and music CDs to be sold at its annual book sale in August. They are also in need of large-print books, which are often requested.

Funds from the annual sale are used to publish voter guides and for other voter services.

Donated materials should be no more than 10 years old and in good condition.

They can be delivered to Pat Rudden at First Bank, 1921 3rd Ave. N., or she can be reached at 906-280-1789 to arrange for pick-up.
