Stroke awareness run/walk set for July 10

ESCANABA — A stroke awareness 5K run and walk will be held July 20 in memory of Ardith Felzke, who died on July 8, 2018 following a stroke.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to patients of OSF Rehabilitation to benefit those who have suffered the effects of a stroke.

Participants registering before July 1 will receive a t-shirt. Businesses can sponsor the event to have their name included on the commemorative shirt.

The race will begin at noon Eastern on the Felch Grade Trail. Parking for the event is at 5653 I Road in Escanaba. Maps of the area as well as registration and sponsorship information is available on Facebook. Search for “Stroke Awareness 5k Run/Walk: In Memory of Ardith Felzke.”

Awards will be given to the top three winners. All participants are invited to stick around after the race for a barbecue.

Gladstone Public Library summer reading program

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone School and Public Library will host a kick-off summer story hour on June 19 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. for children ages 2 to 10 years old.

Reading logs are due Wednesday, Aug. 7 by 4 p.m.

ESCANABA — The Delta County Republican Party will be holding its regular monthly noon meeting Thursday, June 20 at Ferdinand’s Mexican Restaurant, 1318 Ludington Street, Escanaba.

Pulled pork sandwich sale for Eskymo hockey

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Eskymo Varsity Hockey Team will be holding their annual pulled pork sandwich sale Friday, June 28 from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. at Elmer’s County Market.

For take-out orders call or text 399-5924. Delivery from Eskymo hockey players is free.

All proceeds benefit the Escanaba Varsity Hockey Team. The Escanaba Eskymo Varsity Hockey Team is completely self-funded.

Pain management class

ESCANABA — North Woods Place Senior Living is hosting a Pain Management series by UPCAP beginning June 20. Classes will meet every Thursday for six weeks from 1 to 3:30 p.m., excluding July 4. Seniors living with chronic pain will learn to manage their symptoms and learn from others with similar challenges.

IXL Historical Museum birthday party Sunday

HERMANSVILLE — The IXL Historical Museum in Hermansville will host its 137th birthday party June 23 from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. CDT. Children under 10 are admitted free. The entrance fee will include live music and tours.

Birthday cupcakes and lemonade will be available for purchase. Money earned from this event will go towards roofing the IXL office building. Bring your lawn chairs, family, and friends and spend the afternoon.

Wells Lions 52 club ­raffle winner named

WELLS — The winner of the Wells Lions Club raffle for the week of June 17 is Jim “Beak” Moore of Escanaba. Moore won $100. This was week 46 of the raffle.

Sit-n-fit exercise class

ESCANABA — Fitness chair exercises to improve strength, stretching, balance, flexibility and muscle will be held every Monday and Friday at 11 a.m. at the Escanaba Senior Center. Sign in at the office. The event is free.
