Gladstone reading program starts soon
GLADSTONE — The Gladstone Public Library’s summer reading program, A Universe of Stories, will run June 10 through Aug. 7. All participants must be registered. The program is open to students from pre-school through 12th grade.
The library kicks off their summer reading program on Wednesday, June 19 with a story hour celebration at 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. with reading, music, and a craft.
Call 428-4224 or stop by the library to register by June 10 and pick up your reading logs.
The summer reading program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library and local businesses.
Lighthouse, Museum to open for summer
ESCANABA — The Sand Point Lighthouse and the Delta County Historical Museum will open for the summer season Memorial Day, May 27.
Both the lighthouse and museum will be open every day during the summer through Labor Day. Hours each day will be 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. EDT.
There is no change in the admission fee. The lighthouse and museum are located at 16 Beaumier Way, Ludington Park, Escanaba.
In addition to the lighthouse and the museum, the Delta County Historical Society Archives will be open to the public during the summer on weekdays through Labor Day. Archives hours during the summer are 1 to 4 p.m. (EDT), Monday through Friday. The archives are located in the Dr. John and Mary Jane beaumier Historical Building along with the museum. There is no charge to use the archives, though donations are always welcome.

Activities daily at Bark River Senior Center
BARK RIVER — The Bark River Seniors meet each Wednesday at the Senior Center on D Road in Bark River, with a variety of activities to share. The coffee pot is always on, starting at 9 a.m. EST, with treats donated by local stores. If you enjoy cards or cribbage, join a game and enjoy some friendly competition. There are Thai Chi and Sit-and-Fit exercise opportunities from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Dinner is served at 11:30 a.m. and comes from the Meals-on-Wheels Senior Program. There is a cost for the meal. A calendar lets you decide if you want to order the meal each week, which can be called in by noon on Tuesday.
Bingo is played after dinner.

American Legion steak dinner set for Thursday
GLADSTONE — The American Legion Post 71 Gladstone is serving a steak dinner on Thursday, May 30. Serving is from 4:30 until 7 p.m. The public is welcome.
Sons of Union Veterans to meet May 27
RAPID RIVER — Camp 266 of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War will hold its bi-monthly meeting on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27 at 11 a.m. Eastern time near the gate at the park on Pine Street in Rapid River. The main focus of the meeting will be planning displays for the new All Veterans Museum at the U.P. State Fairgrounds.
Members will also participate in the parade at 1 p.m. and have a display of memorabilia at the Memorial Day festival.
The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is a fraternal organization dedicated to preserving the history and legacy of the heroes who fought and worked to save the Union. Camp 266 includes members from across the Upper Peninsula. The focus of the camp is locating, marking, and maintaining graves of Civil War veterans as well as researching Civil War history.
