Legion breakfast May 19

GLADSTONE — The American Legion in Gladstone will be serving breakfast Sunday, May 19, from 9 a.m. until noon. The public is welcome.

Live music, karaoke at planned at Amvets

ESCANABA — Amvets Post 123, located at 1315 North Lincoln Road, will feature the band Ghost Riders playing rock and some country music Friday, May 17 from 7 to 11 p.m.

On Saturday, May 18 the Amvets will host Raven Madness Karaoke with DJ Sis from 7 to 11 p.m.

Placing of flags on ­veteran graves

MANISTIQUE — The Schoolcraft All Vets announce the placing of flags on veteran graves in the dozen Schoolcraft cemeteries will take place Saturday, May 18. Members of the public are welcome to take part. Those interested are asked to meet at the VFW Post on Maple Street at 9 a.m. for assignments.

In the event of bad weather, the posting will take place on Saturday, May 25 at the same time and place.

The Schoolcraft All Vets is a loose organization of The American Legion Post 83, the Disabled American Legion Chapter 26, and the Veterans of Foreign War Post 4420.

Memorial Day military ceremonies scheduled

ESCANABA — The Delta County Veteran Council will be holding Memorial Day ceremonies on May 27 at area cemeteries and monuments.

Ceremonies will take place at Holy Cross at 9 a.m., Lakeview Cemetery at 9:30 a.m., and at the Ludington Park veterans monument at 10 a.m. The laying of the wreath for the soldiers and sailors lost at sea ceremony, presented by the Ladies Auxiliary of Marine Corps League 444, will also take place at Ludington Park.

At 11 a.m., the Veteran Council will travel to Gardens of Rest Ceremony for its military service, honoring the veterans who have passed away since last Memorial Day.

The Garden Of Rest Ceremony will be held outside at 11 a.m. Craig Woerpel will be the master of ceremonies, and Jeffery A. Sierpien, retired USMC and the Delta County Airport manager, will be the speaker. Laura Sliva, Escanaba High School junior, will sing the National Anthem and also play Taps to end the ceremony.

Amvets Post 123 of Escanaba will be performing the rifle salute at all the ceremonies.

Ensign Township Hall open house Sunday

ENSIGN — An open house will be held at the newly renovated Ensign Township Hall Sunday, May 19, from 1 to 3 p.m., located at 9498 24th Road, Rapid River. All are welcome.

Eagles to hold breakfast

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Eagles 1088 will serve breakfast Sunday, May 19, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Eagles Hall, located at 608 Ludington Street in Escanaba.

The public is welcome to attend. There is a fee to attend the breakfast. For more information, call the Escanaba Eagles Club at 786-3451.

Class of 1964 reunion

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone High School Class of 1964 will hold a dinner reunion July 3. Contact Susan at 920-265-6407 or Linda at 231-510-0617 for details and reservations.

Garden Gallery open house set for May 23

GARDEN — The Garden Art Gallery will once again open its door to visitors with an open house from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 23 on Main Steet in Garden. The open house is designed as a way to let the public know that the Gallery has re-opened for the season.

The gallery will be offering a $50 gift certificate and door prizes along with free appetizers, drinks and desserts. Inn and Coffee Exchange will be providing customers with roasted coffee. This celebration includes a spaghetti dinner by Nahma Inn Kitchen as a fundraiser for Tri Star, beginning at 4:30 p.m. in the community hall. This is a free will donation meal.

The gallery showroom will be open with a variety of items for sale and many of the more than 50 local artists present. Several new artists will be present.
