ESCANABA — The Delta Drama Club is gearing up to perform its first play under the direction of Sara Salo for residents of Delta County. Based on a novel by Louisa May Alcott, “Little Women” has been adapted for stage by members Josie Wert, Stephanie Salo, and Annaliese Wert.

It tells the tale of four sisters who share joys and heartaches as they grow up in the 1860s. Eldest daughter Meg is played by Jaycee Huff. Annaliese Wert assumes the role of funny and mischievous Jo. Stephanie Salo plays the artistic sibling, Amy. And Clara Wert is Beth, the youngest sister.

Cast as their parents are Josie Wert as their mother, “Marmee,” and Levi Seaman as Father March. Seaman also plays a dual role as the stern schoolteacher. Their handsome neighbor, Laurie, played by Michael Wert, provides moments of comic relief. Josiah Lawrence assumes the role of John, Meg’s future fiance, much to her aunt’s chagrin. Rebecca Wert plays to a “tee” Aunt March, alias “Old Crabcakes.” Clara Wert and Julia Fleming act as students at Amy’s school. And Eli Salo rounds out the cast with a cameo appearance as a dancer.

Julia Fleming designed the promotional poster and serves as stage manager. Sara Wert is the go-to person for everything costume-related. The Club also recognizes Charles Salo as “the overworked and underpaid scene changer.”

The one-hour drama will be presented one night only, Friday, May 10, from 6 to 7 p.m., at the William Bonifas Fine Arts Center. There is no admission fee, but free will offerings will be accepted at the door. All proceeds will go to the Bonifas Fine Arts Center. For more information, please call 906-428-2843.
