Slingers at Amvets Friday

ESCANABA — Amvets Post 123, located at 1315 North Lincoln Road in Escanaba, is featuring country band Slingers from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday March 22. The public is welcome.

Gladstone Lions Club to hold spring social

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone Lions Club will hold its annual spring social and fundraiser on April 12. The event will be held at the Terrace Bluff Country Club. Music this year will include local favorites The Jam Band, with additional performances by Speedy Beef and The School of Rock Kids.

All tickets will be available at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased at Northern Insurance locations in Gladstone and Escanaba, mBank in Wells, Upper Peninsula State Bank in Gladstone, and at Jim’s Music and Teaching Center in Escanaba. Those purchasing tickets in advance will be entered in a drawing for prizes at the event including Sweetgrass golf packages and other items.

Along with 50/50 raffles, there will also be $20 card raffles for a Mossberg bolt action hunting rifle that retails for $580, a Buckmark target pistol that retails at $500, and a 300 Blackout rifle that is valued at $650. Doors open at 7 p.m. with music beginning at 8 p.m.

Proceeds will benefit the Gladstone High School Scholarship Fund. The Lions are also supporting the Gladstone Public Safety K-9 Program with this event. For more information, contact Bill Sjoquist at 428-1924.

Adoption information meetings planned

ESCANABA — Upper Peninsula Family Solutions is seeking families who are interested in adopting through the new Domestic Infant Adoption Program. The program places infants with families residing in the U.P. who wish to adopt through private open adoption placements.

Three informational meetings will be held, all beginning at 6 p.m. and lasting 1 to 1 1/2 hours. The first will be held on Wednesday, March 27 at the UPFS office in the Jutila Center, 200 Michigan St., Rm 316, Hancock, Michigan. The second will be Monday, April 1 at the UPFS office located at 369 US Hwy 41 East, Negaunee, and the final meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 2 at the UPFS office located in the Ludington Center, 1100 Ludington Street, Suite 204, Escanaba.

Wells Lions 52 club ­raffle winner named

WELLS — The winner of the Wells Lions Club raffle for the week of March 18 is Lois Buckland of Gladstone. Buckland won $100. This was week 33 of the raffle.

All About Animals to make visit to U.P.

ESCANABA — All About Animals Rescue from Warren, Mich. will be returning to the Upper Peninsula the week of May 5. AAAR is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that helps low-income residents with reduced cost pet spay/neuter and basic wellness services.

The mobile unit will be in Escanaba at Tractor Supply on May 6 and 7. It will also be at the Hannahville HIC Community Center in Wilson on May 8 and 9 for tribal members, descendants, and residents. Sit-n-fit exercise class

ESCANABA — Fitness chair exercises to improve strength, stretching, balance, flexibility and muscle will be held every Monday and Friday at 11 a.m. at the Escanaba Senior Center. Sign in at the office. The event is free.

Purple Heart 1976 meeting on Aug. 30

ESCANABA — The Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) Chapter 1976 will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 28, at the clubhouse building, 1202 Sheridan Road.
