CRYSTAL FALLS, Mich. — On Sunday, Feb. 10, the Second Sunday Folk Dance series will welcome Red Tail Ring to deliver the featured concert. The opening act, White Water, will start promptly at 4 p.m. (CT). The event is held at the Fortune Lake Camp in Crystal Falls.

After the concert portion of the evening, the Front Parlor Dance Band and dance caller Steve Kickert will provide dance music and instruction until 7 p.m.

Red Tail Ring — composed of Laurel Premo and Michael Beauchamp Cohen — creates lush, intricate arrangements of original folk music and traditional ballads with banjo, fiddle, mandolin, guitar, and close harmonies. “American Roots UK” refers to Red Tail Ring as “The very best of the 21st century’s minimalist and highly original folk music … a peerless duo.”

The Michigan-based band’s latest full-length studio release, “Fall Away Blues,” features new songwriting fused with old-time and country blues themes. The album tackles subjects such as gun violence and environmentalism, as well as age-old questions of place and love.

“(Red Tail Ring) doesn’t just pay homage to vintage folk and roots music: The duo breathes new life into it, channeling the power and charm of seminal material into its own original songs,” said John Sinkevics of LocalSpins.com.

Since 2009, Red Tail Ring has performed their brand of acoustic roots music all over the United States and traveled to perform in the UK, Denmark, Germany, Finland, and Sweden. This March they will tour Australia, and in July they will be back in the U.P. for the Hiawatha Traditional Music Festival.

After February, the remaining line-up of guest musicians for the 34th Second Sunday season includes Kitty Donohoe (March 10) and Jack Williams (April 14). A season schedule and more about the musicians for the Second Sunday Folk Dance is available at www.secondsundayfolkdance.com.

Dean and Bette Premo organize and host the Second Sunday series.
