‘Disable The Label’ planned for March 2

ESCANABA — Disable the Label, a disability awareness event sponsored by the Delta County RICC, will be held Saturday, March 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Delta Plaza Mall. Registration will be in the food court.

The community is invited to participate in this event, which will allow them to experience the difficulty that many of our family, friends and neighbors who have disabilities face daily. Participants will have the opportunity to use equipment that people with physical challenges need for daily use, such as wheelchairs, crutches, walkers, and canes. They will use these tools to complete a mile walk throughout the mall. There will be stations for participants to visit to learn about different aspects of the lives, jobs, recreation, and social life of people with disabilities.

The goal of this event is to bring awareness and greater understanding of people who have disabilities. Children are encouraged to participate.

New this year will be guest speakers discussing ABLE Act accounts, fair housing, exercise, health, nutrition, and autism awareness.

Prize drawings will be held for active participation and also a raffle to support the Delta Area Transit Authority (DATA).
