DAV meeting is Feb. 4

ESCANABA — The next scheduled meeting for the DAV Chapter 24 will be held on Monday, Feb. 4, at 7 p.m. at the Military Order of the Purple Heart building located at 1202 Sheridan Road, Escanaba. All disabled veterans are welcome.

Sons of Union Veterans schedule meeting

MARQUETTE — Camp 266 of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War will hold their bi-monthly meeting on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 1 p.m. in the old board room at the Jacobetti Veterans Home in Marquette. The room is on the lower level of the home and easily accessible from the rear parking lot.

The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is a fraternal organization dedicated to preserving the history and legacy of the heroes who fought and worked to save the Union. Camp 266 includes members from across the Upper Peninsula. The focus of the camp is locating, marking, and maintaining graves of Civil War veterans as well as researching Civil War history.

Anyone interested in the organization — including women — is welcome to attend. More information is available from Camp Commander Patrick Kennedy at uppermichigan@yahoo.com or 906 863-7686. Also, contact Kennedy if inclement weather may cause cancellation of the meeting.

Breakfast at St. Thomas

ESCANABA — Breakfast will be served at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, located at 1820 9th Avenue North, Escanaba on Sunday, Feb. 3, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. All are welcome, and children five and under eat free.

Line dancing classes at Escanaba Senior Center

ESCANABA — Line dancing class is held every Wednesday for beginners at 12:45 to 2:30 p.m. at Escanaba Senior Center. Sit N Fit classes are held Monday and Friday at the Senior Center from 11 to 11:45 a.m.

Daughters of the American Revolution

MARQUETTE — The Onagomingkway Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR), which serves the western Upper Peninsula, will hold its monthly meeting at the Big Boy restaurant in Marquette on Saturday, Feb. 9, from noon until 3 p.m. For any questions, please call Melissa Wilson at 906-226-7836.

AAUW movie night

ESCANABA — On Feb. 20, AAUW (American Association of University Women) will host a showing of “The Little Pink House.” The movie will begin at the Bonifas at 6:30 p.m.

“The Little Pink House” tells the true story of a woman who fights politicians and the pharmaceutical giant Pfizer to keep her house from being taken to make way for Pfizer’s new headquarters.

Members may bring snacks and drinks to share. This program is open to AAUW members and their invited guests.

AAUW is open to men and women holding an associate degree or higher. Founded in 1881, the organization is globally recognized for its advancement of equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research. For more information on AAUW, contact 474-6545.

Corks and Kegs event

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Elks Auxiliary will be presenting “Corks & Kegs” on Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Elks Lodge 354, starting at 6 p.m.

There will be wine and beer sampling, hors d’oeuvres, bucket raffles, card raffles, door prizes and musical entertainment from Cory Williams and the Daydreamers.

The event is open to the public. A limited number of tickets are available at the Elks Lodge or by calling 280-7711.

Dance in Rock Feb. 10

ROCK — A dance will be held at the Rock Community/Senior Center, located at 3892 W. Mapleridge Rd., on Sunday, Feb. 10 from 1 to 5 p.m. Come enjoy the music of Country Express. There is a cost at the door and a free will donation lunch will be available. For more info call Alice at 356-6588.
