Amvets to host band Slingers tonight in Esky

ESCANABA — Amvets Post 123, located at 1351 North Lincoln Road in Escanaba, is featuring country band Slingers from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11. The public is welcome to attend.

Esky Elks serve dinner

ESCANABA — Friday night dinners at the Elks are served from 5 to 9 p.m. Brunch will be served Sunday, Jan. 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Members and their guests are welcome.

AAUW New Year’s ­gathering planned

ESCANABA — AAUW members and guests will meet at the House of Ludington at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 17 for their annual New Year gathering. The evening will include hors d’oeuvres, door prizes, music, and a cash bar.

Members are asked to bring a donation for the Tri-County Safe Harbor shelter. This can be in the form of personal items such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, soap, washcloths, socks or gift certificates, monetary donations, and paper products that can be utilized by the shelter.

Members are encouraged to bring a guest. Those planning to attend this event should call 789-1905 no later than Jan. 14. There is a per-person price for the evening.

AAUW is open to men and women holding an associate’s degree or higher. Established in 1881, it promotes equity for women and girls through advocacy and research. For more information on AAUW, call 474-6545.

GFWC Escanaba Woman’s Club meeting

ESCANABA — The January membership meeting of the Escanaba Woman’s Club is on Jan. 16, Wednesday at noon. The luncheon will be held at Pacinos and will feature a speaker from the DNR. Dance in Rock Jan. 13

ROCK — A dance will be held at the Rock Community/Senior Center, located at 3892 W. Mapleridge Rd, on Sunday, Jan. 13 from 1 to 5 p.m. Music will be provided by Will Kilpela & Kenny.

There is a cost at the door, and a free-will donation will be collected for lunch.

All proceeds benefit the Rock Senior Corporation. For more information, call Alice at 356-6588.

Third-Sunday breakfast

ROCK — The Rock Lions monthly third-Sunday, all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet will take place on the third Sunday of every month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Rock Lions Club on Hwy. M-35 in Rock. There is a fee for the breakfast, but children age five and under eat free.

The Rock Lions Clubhouse is available for rent by calling Jerry at 906-356-6475.

The Rock Lions Club is a non-profit service organization that provides funding for charitable organizations and local needs.

Taco Tuesday at American Legion

GLADSTONE — The American Legion Post 71, located at 802 Delta Avenue in Gladstone, will be having Taco Tuesday from 4:30 until 6:30 p.m. every Tuesday.

Line dancing classes planned at senior center

ESCANABA — Line dancing class every is held Wednesday for beginners at 12:45 to 2:30 p.m. at Escanaba Senior Center. Sit N Fit classes are held Monday and Friday at the Senior Center from 11 to 11:45 a.m.

Salvation Army social services available

ESCANABA — Social service assistance from the Salvation Army is available 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday in the Community Services Building.

The Soup Kitchen is open noon to 1 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
