Women’s Day of Reflection set for Nov. 10

Courtesy photo Mary Sellars Malloy led last year’s Women’s Day of Reflection at St. Michael Catholic Church in Marquette, which attracted nearly 50 women from different areas of the U.P. The day was called “Garments of Grace,” and Malloy wore various outfits throughout the event, including this comfortable housecoat, as she led the group in prayer, song and reflection. This year’s Women’s Day of Reflection, called “Give Me Jesus,” is being held on Nov. 10.

MARQUETTE — “Give Me Jesus” is the focus of the Women’s Day of Reflection to be hosted by St. Michael Catholic Church in Marquette on Saturday, Nov. 10.

Mary Sellars Malloy will again be the featured presenter and will engage participants in prayer and reflection on three of her favorite passages from the Gospel of Luke. This is the Gospel for the upcoming liturgical year, which begins with the First Sunday of Advent in early December.

Malloy will focus on three passages from Luke’s Gospel that “give us Jesus” the storyteller, healer, savior, companion, and Son of God. The day will also include four pauses for prayer using scripture, silence, song and shared reflection. Participants are asked to bring a Bible and a journal or notebook to the day.

Women are encouraged to attend the Day of Reflection and bring a friend with them. The registration fee includes a continental breakfast, lunch, child care (if needed) and door prizes.

The event is partially funded by a grant from Legacy of Faith, an endowment fund of the Upper Peninsula Catholic Foundation.

The day will begin with registration at 10 a.m. EST, so women from across the U.P. can attend, and will conclude at 3:30 p.m. with the opportunity to talk or pray privately with Malloy. Participants are invited to stay for 4 p.m. mass in the church.

Registrations are due by Wednesday, Nov. 7, and can be made by calling the St. Michael Parish office at 906-228-8180. Registrants should indicate whether they plan to take advantage of the child care that will be available.

Malloy led last year’s Women’s Day of Reflection at St. Michael’s, when nearly 50 women from Marquette, Escanaba, Munising and the Copper Country gathered together for a day of spiritual enrichment. Malloy is an accomplished musician and talented storyteller, who in the past served as the director of the liturgy office for the Diocese of Saginaw and as the pastoral associate for Religious Education and Social Outreach at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Richmond, Virginia. She is semi-retired and most recently served as a senior editor for RCL Benziger Publishing Company.
