Wells Lions club ­raffle winner announced

WELLS — The winner of the Wells Lions Club raffle for the week of Aug. 20 is Jim Aird, Sr. of Wells. Aird won $100. This was week 3 of the raffle.

Karaoke at Amvets

ESCANABA — Amvets Post 123, located at 1315 North Lincoln Road in Escanaba, will be featuring karaoke from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 24. The public is welcome.

DAV to hold meeting

ESCANABA — The next scheduled meeting for the DAV Chapter 24 will be held on Monday, Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. at the Military Order of the Purple Heart building located at 1202 Sheridan Road, Escanaba.

All disabled veterans are welcome.

Croatian chicken dinner

GLADSTONE — Sons of the American Legion Squadron 71 is hosting a Croatian chicken dinner on Sunday, Sept. 9 from 3 to 6 p.m. It will be held at the American Legion, 802 Delta Avenue, Gladstone.

The Legion asks that you call ahead and reserve your dinner, as there is a limited amount of chickens available. To make a reservation, call 906-428-1050. You may take out the dinners or eat in at the hall.

Bay de Noc Stamp and Coin Club to meet

ESCANABA — The next meeting of the Bay de Noc Stamp and Coin Club is Monday, Sept. 10 at 6:30 p.m. Please note the time change.

The meeting is held in room 961 of the Joseph Heirman University Center at Bay College. The public — including those who need coins or stamps appraised — is always welcome at meetings.

Rapid Readers to meet

RAPID RIVER — The next meeting of the Rapid River Readers will take place Thursday, Sept. 13, at 10 a.m. at Jack’s Restaurant in Rapid River.

Novel for discussion is Felix Francis’ “Triple Crown.”

October’s choice, which will be discussed Oct. 11, is “Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir” by J.D. Vance, followed by Jessica Zueller’s “Pretty Is What Changes” on Nov. 8.

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Class of 1954 will be having a class reunion on Aug. 24, 2019, at the Escanaba Country Club.

Bridge meetings every week at Civic Center

ESCANABA — Bridge for beginners, those who want to brush up, or those who just want to get more playing in will meet Thursday mornings from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Civic Center in ­Escanaba.

East Ludington Gallery lecture series continues

ESCANABA — The East Ludington Gallery, 1007 Ludington St. Escanaba, will be having a lecture series the third Thursday of every month.

The next lecture will be by Beth Cox, titled “How Glass Paperweights are Made.”

The lecture will be on Sept. 20 from 7 to 8 p.m. and it is open to the public free of charge.

Dance in Rock Sept. 9

ROCK — A dance will be held at the Rock Community/Senior Center, located at 3892 W. Mapleridge Rd., on Sunday, Sept. 9 from 1 to 5 p.m.

Music will be provided by The County Express. There is a cost to attend the dance, and a free will donation lunch will be available.
