High tea in Manistique

MANISTIQUE — On Tuesday, May 8, GFWC Manistique Women’s Club will host a high tea at noon at the Comfort Inn in Manistique.

There will be entertainment through out the afternoon, and the Tea is open to the public. Tickets may be purchased at the Comfort Inn front desk or at the People’s Store or by calling 906-341-6701.

If you have thought about joining the Manistique GFWC, please come and bring a friend.

Alzheimer’s Support Group canceled

ESCANABA — The Alzheimer’s Support Group meeting scheduled for May 8 has been cancelled. The next meeting will take place on June 12.

Cedar Creek at Amvets

ESCANABA — Amvets Post 123, located at 1315 North Lincoln Road in Escanaba, is featuring County Band Cedar Creek from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday. Veterans and the public are welcome with a donation. The public is also welcome on Saturday, April 21 for an open jam session.

Elks Ladies’ Auxiliary board meeting April 30

ESCANABA — The Elks Ladies’ Auxiliary board meeting will be held Monday, April 30, at 5:30 pm at the Elks Lodge. Interested members are welcome to attend. The theme is red, white and blue.

Garden historical society museum to open

GARDEN — The Garden Peninsula Historical Society will open the Schoolhouse Museum on June 7. Operating hours are Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Family history notebooks are available for researchers as well as photo albums, obituaries, and French Canadian records.

The first meeting of the Historical Society will be May 7 at 1 p.m. in the museum. The public is invited to attend.

Names are being accepted for the Honoree Dinner scheduled for September. To be considered, an honoree must be a past or present resident of the Garden Peninsula and be at least 80 years old. Names can be submitted by calling Brenda Tibbetts at 644-7609 or email momtofour2009@centurylink.net.

GFWC to hold ‘Table Celebrations!’ event

ESCANABA — The International Committee of the GFWC Escanaba Woman’s Club is hosting a unique event, “Table Celebrations!”

On Saturday, April 28, members of the club will fill the Bonifas Arts Center with tables decorated in various themes including, “Spring Garden,” “Go Pack Go,” “4th of July,” “Spode Christmas,” “Cats and Dogs,” and many more.

The ticket price provides appetizers and a drink with time to view the themed tables. All proceeds go toward Project Smile, which provides dental surgeries for children in the USA and worldwide. The event is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Eagles spaghetti dinner fundraiser Saturday

ESCANABA — The Eagles spaghetti dinner fundraiser will be held April 21 at 608 Ludington Street in Escanaba. Dinner will be from 5 to 8 p.m. The event is open to the public, and tickets may be purchased at the door.

Music will be provided by the Bear Walker Band 8 p.m. to midnight. For any questions, call (906) 786-3451 after 4 p.m.

NAMI Support group meeting April 19

MARQUETTE — The National Alliance on Mental Illness-Alger/Marquette offers confidential support groups and educational meetings for individuals living with mental illness, and friends or families living with an individual with mental illness.

A support group will gather Thursday, April 19 at 7 p.m. in the Baraga Place Conference Room, 129 West Baraga Avenue, Marquette. For more information, call 906-360-7107, or visit www.namiam.org.

In case of bad weather, if NMU cancels evening classes, the NAMI meeting will also be cancelled.
