First UMC schedule set

ESCANABA — First United Methodist Church in Escanaba has set its schedule through Easter.

The pastor of First United Methodist Church will be leading the Protestant service at Bishop Noa at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 25.

Youth will meet at 7 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church. The Monday night meal at Bay College will be provided by First UMC and Bark River UMC.

During the week after Palm Sunday, there will be a shared service at Central UMC on Maundy Thursday, March 29, at 6 p.m., and an ecumenical service on Good Friday March 30 at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church at noon.

On Easter Sunday at First UMC, there will be a sunrise service at 8 a.m., followed by breakfast. The 9:30 a.m. service will include Communion, and this is open to all. Sunday school and youth group will not meet on Easter.

The church is located at 302 S. 6th St. in Escanaba.

Christian Closet open April 4 in Escanaba

ESCANABA — Families and individuals in need will be welcome to visit the Christian Closet and select from an assortment of gently used clothing and shoes of all sizes, non-perishable food items, household supplies, and much more. Everything will be available free of charge. The next date the closet will be open is April 4.

The Christian Closet is located at the Escanaba Church of Christ building located in Soo Hill at 5079 18th Road, Escanaba.

The Christian Closet will be open on the first Wednesday of every month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Escanaba Elks Auxillary board to meet April 2

ESCANABA — The Elks Ladies’ Auxillary board meeting will be held Monday, April 2, at 5:30 pm at the Elks Lodge. Interested members are welcome to attend.

Amvets feature Country Classic this Friday

ESCANABA — Amvets Post 123, located at 1315 North Lincoln Road in Escanaba, is featuring the country and variety band Country Classic from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday, March 23. Veterans and the public are welcome to join with a donation.

Compassionate Friends meet tomorrow

ESCANABA — Anyone who has had a child die in their family is invited to attend the meeting on Thursday, March 22, of the Southern Upper Peninsula Chapter of the Compassionate Friends. The meeting takes place at 7 p.m. in the front conference room at Escanaba High School. Use Third Ave. South off the highway and make a quick left into the front of the high school parking lot. Then use the front entrance and once inside, take an immediate left to the third room on the left.

Compassionate Friends is a non-profit self-help bereavement support organization for families that have experienced the death of a child. When a child dies at any age or for any reason, the family suffers intense pain and may feel hopeless and isolated. The Compassionate Friends provides a highly personal comfort, hope and support for every family experiencing the death of a son or daughter, brother or sister, or a grandchild, and helps others better assist the grieving family. The group has more than 625 chapters in the United States.

Sit-n-fit exercise class

ESCANABA — Fitness chair exercises to improve strength, stretching, balance, flexibility and muscle will be held every Monday and Friday at 11a.m. at the Escanaba Senior Center. Sign in at the office. The event is free.

Tai Chi class planned

GLADSTONE — Tai Chi classes meet each Thursday, from 10 until 11 a.m. at the Gladstone Senior Center. Call Donna Aird at 420-2730 if you would like more information.
