Guest speaker at Memorial UMC tonight

GLADSTONE — Kristen Williams from Superior Alliance for Independent Living (SAIL) will be the guest speaker at the Memorial United Methodist Church 1920 Lake Shore Drive Gladstone on Tuesday, March 20 at 6:30 p.m. SAIL helps people transition from a nursing home to living at home. There is a soup supper at 6 p.m., just prior to the speaker at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited.

Lenten soup suppers and program at Trinity

GLADSTONE — Each Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. the public is invited to join Trinity Episcopal Church in Gladstone for a Lenten soup supper. Eucharist will follow with a Lenten presentation on “Living Simply.”

The church is located at the corner of Dakota and 9th St. in Gladstone.

Gustafson benefit dinner Sunday in Escanaba

ESCANABA — A benefit dinner will be held for local veteran Bob Gustafson on Sunday, March 25 from 1 to 6 p.m. at UP Plumber, Pipe Fitters & HVAC Local 111, located at 2601 N. 30th Street in Escanaba.

Bob was diagnosed with mercury poisoning and his family and friends are hosting a spaghetti benefit to help cover the medical cost and travel expenses for treatment.

In addition to spaghetti, Parmesan chicken, veggies and garlic bread will be served.

There is a cost to attend. Take-out is available.

Ecumenical Good Friday service March 30

ESCANABA — The Community/Ecumenical Good Friday Service will take place at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 500 Ogden in Escanaba on Friday, March 30. The hour-long service will begin at noon.

Churches participating include: St. Stephen’s, Immanuel Lutheran, Bethany Lutheran, Christ the King Lutheran, First Presbyterian, Salvation Army, First United Methodist, Central United Methodist, and Harbor Lights Church of God.

Donations sought for Jacobetti veterans

ESCANABA — Those wishing to donate to the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette can drop off items at the Amvets Post 123 located at 1315 North Lincoln Road in Escanaba.

Items can include Forever stamps, personal fans, watches with stretch bands, electric razors (cordless), personal CD players/radios, current magazines, and more.

The home for veterans is currently not accepting clothing protectors, and until further notice, will not accept lap robes and books due to an ample supply.

SERA sets upcoming meeting schedule

ESCANABA — The State Employees Retirement Association (SERA) Upper Peninsula Chapter 16 has set the following schedule for meetings:

– Monday, April 2 at 1:30 p.m. (EDT) in the conference room of the State Building in Escanaba.

– On Monday, May 7 at noon (EDT) there will be a luncheon at the Highland Golf Club, seven miles west of Escanaba. Reservations for the luncheon are due by April 30. Call Arlene at (906) 786-7199 or Frank at (906) 786-2965.

Rock Dance planned

ROCK — A dance will be held at the Rock Community/Senior Center, located at 3892 W. Mapleridge Rd, on Sunday, April 8 from 1 to 5 p.m. Come enjoy the music of Ron Jay & The Country Strangers. There is a cost at the door and a free-will donation lunch will be available.

Taco Tuesday hosted by Legion Post 71 returns

GLADSTONE — American Legion Post 71 welcomes the public to Taco Tuesday, serving from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. each week at the Gladstone Legion Hall, 802 Delta Ave.

Both hard and soft tacos are available, along with nachos and nachos supreme.
