Rapid Readers meet

RAPID RIVER — “A Thousand White Women” by Jim Fergus is the July novel for Rapid Readers. The group will meet on Thursday, July 20 at 10 a.m. at Jack’s Restaurant in Rapid River. New members are welcome. Contact Peg Netchey at 428-9668 with questions.

Rock dance July 9

ROCK — A dance will be held at the Rock Community/Senior Center, located at 3892 W. Mapleridge Rd., on Sunday, July 9 from 1 to 5 p.m. Enjoy the music of The Country Express. Door cost, $5 per person. Free will donation lunch will be available. For more information, call Alice at 356-6588. All proceeds benefit our Senior Corporation.

Annual salad luncheon

and tour to be held

GARDEN — The Village Artisans of Garden will host their annual salad luncheon and tour on Saturday, July 15. Tickets and brochures may be obtained at the Garden Gallery, 6367 State Street in Garden. The tour runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and lunch is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Ticket donation is $10.

The tour will feature a quilt show at the Congregational Church and a Barn Quilt Squares Trail. The luncheon features about two dozen different salads, homemade breads and desserts. Proceeds go to the children’s programs sponsored by the Village Artisans.

Esky class of ’97

holds reunion July 8

ESCANABA — There will be a class reunion for the Escanaba class of 1997 on Saturday, July 8. At noon there will be golf held at the Escanaba Country Club for anyone interested, and then the main event will be held at The Escanaba Elks club starting at 7 p.m., with a $20 cover charge.

Hermansville hosts

Fourth of July events

HERMANSVILLE — The Hermansville Independence Day Celebration will be on Sunday, July 2, from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The parade starts at 11:30 a.m. The line-up and registration for floats begins at 10 a.m. on Earle Drive.

In addition to the parade and its prizes, food, games, and music provided by Runaway Train will take place all afternoon. A classic car show will take place with registration starting at 8 to 11 a.m., and judging taking place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mud runs will also take place with registration starting at 9:30 a.m. to noon (CST), and the runs starting at 12:30 p.m. (CST). Both museums also will be open. Fireworks will be at dusk.

AAUW cosponsors concert

at Northern Sun Winery

ESCANABA — Northern Sun Winery and the Escanaba area branch of American Association of University Women (AAUW) are once again teaming up to bring a musical afternoon to area residents. This year’s concert features a young vocal duo, Genna and Jesse. Their music covers folk, jazz, blues, pop, and oldies but goodies from the ’60s and ’70s.

The festivities begin on Sunday, July 9 with vineyard and wine-making tours at 3 p.m., followed by the concert at 4 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring picnic food or appetizers. Wine will be available by the glass and bottle. No outside alcoholic beverages will be permitted. Soft drinks and water may be brought to the concert. A food and and soft drink vendor will be onsite as well. Participants may bring lawn chairs.

Proceeds from the concert are donated by Northern Sun Winery to AAUW’s scholarships at Bay College and the AAUW STEM awards program.
