Elliotts celebrate 70 years of marriage

ESCANABA – William J. and Lois E Elliott celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary on January 12, 2022.

The former Lois E. Brow & William J. Elliott Jr. were united in Marriage on January 12, 1952 at All Saints Rectory by Father Matt Laviolette. The attendants were Phyllis Ohman, Bridesmaid and Lois Schram (Kenneally), Maid of Honor, Donald Ohman, Groomsman & Matt Smith, Best Man. A reception was held in their honor at the Home of Victor Karnitz following the cermony. William served 4 years in the Navy. Then he began work at Michigan Bell Telephone Company and worked there until his retirement in 1991, after 36 years.

Lois was a stay at home mom until their children were older and then worked as a clerk, and as an Aide at ISD until her retirement.

They enjoyed Bowling, Pool, Golfing, Playing Bridge. William was fortunate to have had 5 hole in ones playing golf. 4 at the Escanaba Country Club and 1 in Yuma, AZ.

After retirement the couple travled to Yuma, Az for 25 winters. Where they enjoyed Golfing and playing cards.

A Celebration of 70 years of Marriage was held, beginning with their Marriage being blessed by Father Fran of St Annes Church on January 9, 2022. On Wednesday, January 12, 2022 a party was held at St Annes Church Hall, hosted by their children, Linda (Mike) Strzok, Joni Elliott, Bill (Cindy) Elliott and the Late Michael J. Elliott. Guests came as far as Wisconsin, Illinois, & Maryland. At the party the brides original wedding dress was displayed and the grooms naval uniform as well. A cake was made and the original Wedding Cake Topper was also displayed.

They are current members of St. Annes Church and the Eagles Club, former members of Escanaba Country Club, Elks Club, Amvets. They are long time residents of Escanaba.
