Talls celebrate 50 years of marriage

Marc and Maggie Tall

ESCANABA — Among all the other cancellations and postponements of 2020, was the celebration of a 50th Anniversary. Marc and Maggie (Thom) Tall were married Jan. 31, 1970, at the Valley Community Presbyterian Church in Golden Valley, Minn. An anniversary party had been planned for the summer of 2020, but had to be postponed.

Marc and Maggie met in home room in high school, and then re-connected while both were working at Glenwood Hills Hospital. Marc went into the radio business, first working in Eau Claire, Wis., and then in Mankato, Minn. Maggie studied and became an LPN, and after the wedding went to work at St. Joseph Hospital in Mankato. The couple moved to Escanaba in 1977 when Marc and his partners bought WBDN (now WCHT). Maggie soon went to work at St. Francis Hospital’s Respiratory Care department. Marc sold computers at the local Radio Shack business, and then went back to radio working at the Radio Results Network, in the sales department.

The couple has been involved in many church and civic activities including the Community Thanksgiving Dinner, Girl Scouts, the Remnants Chorus, and the Escanaba Rotary Club. Interested in local government, Marc served first on the Escanaba Planning Commission and then was elected to the City Council in 1998. He returned to the council in 2013 and has served since as Mayor.

Marc and Maggie have two daughters, Amity Robinson and Kathy Tall. With her husband John, Amity and their two kids, Margaret and David, live outside Ludington, Mich. Kathy resides in Rockford, Ill., where she is active in local politics.
