ESCANABA — Bay College’s Besse Theater will be filled with Christmas music on Tuesday, Dec. 12 when Trio Dolce performs. As part of the Marquette Symphony Orchestra Series, Trio Dolce will hit the theater stage at 7:30 p.m.

Trio Dolce was recently formed from principal players of the Marquette Symphony Orchestra. The trio includes members Claudia Drosen, flute; Janis Peterson, violin, and Anne Perket, cello.

About the trio:

Claudia Drosen, principal flute in the Marquette Symphony, teaches flute performance in the music department at Northern Michigan University (NMU) in Marquette.

Drosen is a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., who has lived in Upper Peninsula with her family for 30 years. She has a bachelor in fine arts in flute in performance from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and an master of arts in creative writing from NMU.

Drosen has also had the privilege of studying flute with Paula Robison and Thomas Nyfenger in New York, and Maxence Larrieu at the Academie Internationale D’Ete in Nice, France.

Janis Peterson, concertmaster of the Marquette Symphony, recently retired after teaching orchestra for 37 years in the Marquette Area Public Schools.

During Peterson’s tenure, her program grew in quantity and quality, her groups performed throughout Europe and North America and she was bestowed many honors including teacher of the year for the Marquette, U.P., Mich. School Band and Orchestra Association, and the Michigan American String Teachers Association.

Peterson studied violin at the University of Michigan, NMU, and Michigan State University, and continues to attend workshops/master classes as she continues her passion of performing and teaching strings. Peterson, who is now retired, performs often in a variety of ensembles and genres.

Anne Perket recently moved back to her hometown of Marquette after living in the Philadelphia area for 32 years.

There she studied with Orlando Cole, a Curtis Institute cello teacher, and Kathryn Picht, a cellist in the Philadelphia Orchestra. Auditions led to playing in many regional orchestras and freelancing in the Philadelphia area for 30 years.

Highlights were playing with Philly Pops, Concerto Soloists and the Delaware Symphony, including a tour of Portugal, as well as a tour with Linda Rondstadt and Aaron Neville, and concerts with Kansas, Smokey Robinson and other well-known artists.

Perket was a member of four regional symphony orchestras and an opera company pit orchestra for most of the 30 years.

Perket is delighted to be back home, enjoying the musical opportunities in the U.P.
