70th anniversary celebrated

ESCANABA — Herbert and Rita (VanEffen) Caron of Escanaba celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. The couple was wed Feb. 8, 1947 at St. Patrick’s Rectory in Escanaba, with the reception being held at the home of the bride’s parents.

Original attendants at the ceremony were Betty and Louis Tryan, sister and brother-in-law of the bride.

The couple celebrated their anniversary with a reception at their home in Escanaba, which was hosted by their children.

Herbert retired from Andex Company in February of 1991 after 26 years. His wife, Rita, is a homemaker. They both are involved with St. Pats St. Joes Church. Herbert also celebrated his 91st birthday the day after their anniversary on Feb. 9.

Their children are James and Sharon of Gladstone, Sherri Swanson, Donald Caron, Raymond Caron, Tracy and Jamie Bruce, and Jean and Randy Malueg, all of Escanaba. They also have 14 grandchildren, with one having passed away, and eight great-great grandchildren.Herbert and Rita Caron
