Black Bears run past Mid Pen

GARDEN CORNERS — Chris Chaperon erupted for a season-high 24 points and the Big Bay de Noc boys basketball team won its first conference game of the year, upending Mid Peninsula 70-52 here Wednesday in a Skyline Central Conference game.

The Black Bears (2-13, 1-11 SC) jumped out to a 37-25 halftime lead and didn’t look back. They also won for the second time in four games, as they beat Hannahville 61-35 Feb. 5 for their first win of the season.

Mid Pen (1-14, 1-12 SC) didn’t have many problems scoring, but couldn’t get any stops defensively.

Kellen Thill added 19 points for the Black Bears and Alex LaLonde chipped in with 16.

Zach Englund led the Wolverines with 17 points and Joe McNally added 14.

The Black Bears host Stephenson tonight, while Mid Pen visits Rapid River Friday.
